The Coat of Paternus
The cloak granted to Paternus by Magnus Maximus as a symbol of his office as a foederati commander was taken to Venedotia by his grandson Cunedda, something his younger brother Lot still resents. Both he and his nephew Catuvellaunus Long-Arm consider the cloak theirs by right.
The coat was taken by the Irish Déisi, and is currently held by Galchobhar, one of their chieftains in Ireland.
“If a well-born man put it on, it would be the right size for him; if a churl, it would not go upon him.”
